Part 2: Sentences/grammar

1. I was pretty disappointed to find out I got put in the Gifted froup, because that just meant a lot of extra work.

分析:be disappointed to find out something, because that...中文翻译时可忽略find out,直接翻译成“被分在天才组我感到很失望”,也可以改成从句形式:I was pretty disappointed that I got put in the Gifted group, because that just meant a lot of extra work. 但感觉两个that有点重复。另外在本句中,get代替了be动词,形成被动语态。

仿写:I’m disappointed to find out I wasn’t on the promotion list, because I had done a lot of work.

2. When they did the screening at the end of last year, I did me best to make sure I got put in the Easy group this year.

分析:Do one’s best to make sure/avoid, 类似的意思还可以说:Have done everything possible to .

仿写:She did her best to pass the exam.

Part 3: 日记

Last December, I decided to take a qualification test next year and I would have six months to prepare for it. It took me two months to figure out what is the test about. In March the third month, I enrolled on line. I ordered some examination books in April and had nothing to do except waiting for the express. When I recieved those books, there were less than two months left. I vowed I would spare no effort in preparing the test. But last month, I still had a lot of work to do, and I had to take care of my son during the rest time. I thought watch movies and read some novel is  a deserved reward. Now, the test will be hold in two weeks. I swear I will do everything possible to prepare for it.
