Writing the Abstract

key questions we must answer

  • what the study about
  • what did you investigate? why?
  • what did you do? methods
  • what did you discover?
  • what do you result mean? why are the important?

 

Tense时态

  • use present tense(现在时) when explaining results ,stating established facts,or drawing conclusions.
  • use the past tense (过去时)to describe completed experiments and research
  • use future tense to predict findings

Avoid using" I " or the" passive "(被动语态)voice

choose active verbs instaed of passive;

do not refer to figures or tables in the abstract 

do not quote or paraphrase others in the abstract

 

Title:contains all of the essential parts of your presentation

  • key concept
  • device
  • group studied
  • your argument

 

 

how to structure the abstract

Motivation:why do we care about the problem and the results?

  if your research is continuing a problem-----put the problem statement first to show which piece of the problem you are working

Problem Statement:what problem are you trying to solve?

  work scope;approach or method

Approach:how did you solve the problem?

  use a simulation,analytical model,prototype,or analusis of fied data

  important variables--control,ignore,measureResults:what is the answer?

  Avoid general,unclear words when describe your results such as :very,small,signifacant.

  conclude that sth is faster ,cheaper,smaller,or better than sth else,by using a percentage to show difference.
