“gauge” 常作名词表示“测量仪器”，作为动词常表示“测量” “算出”。不过，“gauge”也常被引申为“评估” “判断”的意思，常可以用来替换 evaluate, estimate, measure 等词。

比如我们有时候很难判断一个人的心情如何，就可以用到 gauge:
