I Don't Want to Die ---

The first escape of Wilbur ended with a failure. If you are interested about the reasons why his first try fails, and his acquaintance with Charlotte, you can check my former articles in the last.

Wilbur and his friend Charlotte still lived in the barn. Stories between them finally came on stage.

Everything is beautiful

For everyone on the farm, the early summer days are the happiest and fairest days of the year. The days grow warm and soft. School ends, and children have time to play.

To Wilbur's delight, Fern visited the barn almost every day.

**Everything looks so beautiful and seems to be forever **

Early summer days are a jubilee time for birds. In the fields, around the house, in the barn, in the woods, in the swamp--everywhere love and songs and nests and eggs.

Everywhere you look is life.

Then an important thing happened.

On a day in early summer the goose eggs hatched. Except for the goose herself, It was Charlotte who first knew the goslings arrived.

There were eight goose eggs, but only seven goslings came out of the shells, which meant that the last egg was bud. Then the rat took unhatched egg away.

Wilbur's attitude towards Charlotte had changed

Yeah, we all know that Charlotte was one of Wilbur's friends. But actually Wilbur didn't like her very much at the begining. He felt she was bloodthirsty and cruel just because the way she ate flies and many other insects.

However, as days went on, Wilbur liked Charlotte better and better. Charlotte ate flies which was a good deed to all of them.
Nearly nobody around the farm spoke highly of the flies. Flies kept making noises which are annoying.

The cows hated them. The horses detested them. The sheep loathed them. Mr. and Mrs. Zukerman were always complaining about them, and putting up screens.

What's more, Wilbur began to admire the way Charlotte managed. (Charlotte always knocked them down, give them an anaesthetic so they won't feel pain. )

Danger is coming

Wilbur was blind to what would happen to him. He ate three big meals a day. He spent long hours lying on his side, half asleep, dreaming pleasant dreams. He enjoyed good health and he gained a lot of weight.

Wilbur didn't know why they're fattening him up until one afternoon the oldest sheep passing by the barn told him that they're fattening him up because they're going to kill him.

After realizing this, Wilbur was totally at a loss. He didn't know what to do except for screaming. He screamed again and again. He didn't stop screaming until Charlotte said she would save him.

My Thinking:
1. Concern oneself with facts, not with individuals.

The entire company watched in disgust while the rat rolled it away.

The rat had no morals, no conscience, no scruples, no consideration, no decency, no milk of rodent kindness, no compunctions, no higher feeling, no friendliness, no anything.

For Wilbur, it was unbelievable to eat a junky old rotten egg.

For Charlotte, this was what a rat did. And she thought that the rat had done a good thing. What she said to Wilbur was as the following.

"But, my friends, if that ancient egg ever breaks, this barn will be untenable."

"Nobody will be able to live here on account of the smell. A rotten egg is a regular stink bomb."

From what Charlotte said, we could know that she hadn't deny the rat completely.Though rats were notorious. But this time the thing it did was good. There was no doubt that we should learn the way Charlotte treated the rat and the thing it did separately.

Many of us always confused oneself with facts and individuals. Maybe these people should try to think as Charlotte did: Rats are rats, things are things. Even a bad guy may also do good things.
