Markdown treats asterisks * and underscores _ as indicators of emphasis.

• Text wrapped with one * or _ will be wrapped with an HTML < em > tag;
• double *'s or _'s will be warped with HTML < strong > tag

__double underscores__

will produce

double asterisks

double underscores

you can use whichever style you prefer.

Notes:

• use the same character to open and close an emphasis span;
• emphasis can also be used within a word;
• if you surround an * or _ with spaces, it will treated as literal asterisk or underscore
