十多年前刚创立之时，安邦还只是一家做汽车保险的小公司，但到2017年已跻身全球最大保险公司之列，资产总值约达3000亿美元，其中包括对欧美和亚洲一些酒店和金融公司持有的股份。
这句很长，先抠词。
“创立”，可以是set up, establish, found注意这些词和公司都是主语被动关系。
如果要选择主动关系，可以是start，Anbang started as a ... company，以……公司作为起步的。如果你想到了这个start，还可以再想得深一点，和后面的跻身联系到一起，Anbang rose/ascended, from a small... company more than a decade ago, to one of the biggest... in 2017，这样也很简洁，等于把后面的“跻身”包含在to的动作趋势里了，就不用再去组另一个完整句，不用再去想跻身还要怎么表达，特别是口译的时候，脑容量就这样节约下来了，感觉爽爽哒。
如果用when引导的时间状语从句，when从句和主句都用公司做主语的话，就可以省略when从句的主谓，变成：
When established more than a decade ago, Anbang...
还可以用upon这个词，Anbang was a ... company upon its establishment more than a decade ago.
还有inception:
The inception of an institution or activity is the start of it. 开始; 开端
Since its inception the company has produced 53 different aircraft designs.
该公司自成立以来已经设计出53种不同的飞行器。
“跻身”，可以是rise/ascend to, 跻身……之列，可以用这个词组：
rank among (或with): 在…之列，与…并列：
I think Ba Jin ranks among the greatest writers.
我认为巴金可以被列入最伟大作家的行列。
也可以拿出初中英语的词汇，be/become one of the world’s biggest insurance companies。
“资产”，可以考虑这个词组：
in assets
a corporation with 9 billion in assets
一家拥有90亿美元资产的公司
这里可以是：300 billion US dollars in assets。
“股份”，除了用share, stake之外，还可以用holding:
If you have a holding in a company, you own shares in it. 持有的股份
That would increase Olympia & York's holding to 35%.
这将使奥林匹亚约克公司的持有股增加至35%。
然后是组句思路：
十多年前刚创立之时，安邦还只是一家做汽车保险的小公司，但到2017年已跻身全球最大保险公司之列，资产总值约达3000亿美元，其中包括对欧美和亚洲一些酒店和金融公司持有的股份。
（1）根据时间顺序，拆成两句话：
When established more than ten years ago, Anbang was just a small car insurer.
Anbang started as a small car insurer more than ten years ago.
Anbang was just a small car insurer upon its establishment.
后半句：
But in 2017 it rose/ascended to.../ranked among... with around 300 billion US dollars in assets including holdings ...
（2）合成一句话，用安邦做主语，十多年前的情况做插入语，主句用“跻身”那句：
Anbang, which started as a ... company more than a decade ago, ascended/risen to.../become one of the world's largest...
（3）还是安邦做主语，谓语用start/develop from ... to...:
Anbang rose/ascended, from a small... more than a decade ago, to one of the ... with ... in assets including...

Anbang was founded as a small car-insurance company just over a decade ago. By 2017 it ranked among the world’s biggest insurers, with some $300bn of assets, including stakes in hotels and financial firms in America, Europe and Asia.
