战争与和平—和平词根pac

上一期我们认识了好战的bell，这期我们认识一下和平的pac词根

词根pac 源于拉丁语，表示"agree","peace"

The Pacific Ocean （太平洋）的这个Pacific,就是和平的意思。

1520年,葡萄牙航海家麦哲伦受西班牙国王之命,率领船队寻找通往东方的西航路线,经过四个多月的艰险航程,越过风狂浪恶的大西洋,穿过狭窄险要、弯曲多礁的麦哲伦海峡,进入新的大洋。时逢这里天气晴朗温和,洋面平静如镜,碧水映着蓝天,航行几十天都是如此,与前段航路形成鲜明对照,因此,麦哲伦便把这个叫做“南海”的大洋改称为“ElmarPacific”,意为“和平之洋”,汉译为“太平洋”。

例：Later he was to become famous as a pacifist.
