练习材料:Lesson 84 On strike 时长:77s

Busmen have decided to go on strike next week.

Busmen hæv dɪˈsaɪdɪd tuː gəʊ ɒn straɪk nɛkst wiːk.

The strike is due to begin on Tuesday.

ðə straɪk ɪz djuː tuː bɪˈgɪn ɒn ˈtjuːzdeɪ.

No one knows how long it will last.

nəʊ wʌn nəʊz haʊ lɒŋ ɪt wɪl lɑːst.

The busmen have stated that the strike will continue until general agreement is reached about pay and working conditions.

ðə busmen hæv ˈsteɪtɪd ðæt ðə straɪk wɪl kənˈtɪnju(ː) ənˈtɪl ˈʤɛnərəl əˈgriːmənt ɪz riːʧt əˈbaʊt peɪ ˈwɜːkɪŋ kənˈdɪʃənz.

Most people believe that the strike will last for at least a week.

məʊst ˈpiːpl bɪˈliːv ðæt ðə straɪk wɪl lɑːst fɔːr æt liːst ə wiːk.

Many owners of private cars are going to offer ‘free rides’ to people on their way to work.

ˈmɛni ˈəʊnəz ɒv ˈpraɪvɪt kɑːz ɑː ˈgəʊɪŋ tuː ˈɒfə friː raɪdz tuː ˈpiːpl ɒn ðeə weɪ tuː wɜːk.

This will relieve pressure on the trains to some extent.

ðɪs wɪl rɪˈliːv ˈprɛʃər ɒn ðə treɪnz tuː sʌm ɪksˈtɛnt.

Meanwhile, a number of university students have volunteered to drive buses while the strike lasts.

ˈmiːnˈwaɪl, ə ˈnʌmbər ɒv ˌjuːnɪˈvɜːsɪti ˈstjuːdənts hæv ˌvɒlənˈtɪəd tuː draɪv ˈbʌsɪz waɪl ðə straɪk lɑːsts.

All the students are expert drivers, but before they drive any of the buses, they will have to pass a special test.

ɔːl ðə ˈstjuːdənts ɑːr ˈɛkspɜːt ˈdraɪvəz, bʌt bɪˈfɔː ðeɪ draɪv ˈɛni ɒv ðə ˈbʌsɪz, ðeɪ wɪl hæv tuː pɑːs ə ˈspɛʃəl tɛst.

The students are going to take the test in two day’s time.

ðə ˈstjuːdənts ɑː ˈgəʊɪŋ tuː teɪk ðə tɛst ɪn tuː deɪz taɪm.

Even so, people are going to find it difficult to get to work.

ˈiːvən səʊ, ˈpiːpl ɑː ˈgəʊɪŋ tuː faɪnd ɪt ˈdɪfɪkəlt tuː gɛt tuː wɜːk.

But so far, the public has expressed its gratitude to students in letters to the press.

bʌt səʊ fɑː, ðə ˈpʌblɪk hæz ɪksˈprɛst ɪts ˈgrætɪtjuːd tuː ˈstjuːdənts ɪn ˈlɛtəz tuː ðə prɛs.

Only one or two people have objected that the students will drive too fast!

ˈəʊnli wʌn ɔː tuː ˈpiːpl hæv əbˈʤɛktɪd ðæt ðə ˈstjuːdənts wɪl draɪv tuː fɑːst!

on strike  adj.罢工

He said he had to go on strike, asking "What is next? "

练习感悟:明显语速快了不少~跟读的难度又上升了
