一、含义

emerge在剑桥高阶词典中有两大类含义:

1.appear,  又细分为“to appear by coming out of something or out from behind something”和“to come to the end of a difficult period or experience”两层意思,例句:She emerged from the bedroom, a vision in cream silk。The Prince emerged unscathed(艰难的) from the scandal(丑闻). 

2.become known,  “to become known, especially as a result of examining something or asking questions about it ”,例句: She's the most exciting British singer to emerge on the pop scene for a decade.  It emerged that she had lied to her employers.

二、举例

英英释义“to appear, or to become recognized”,emerge是显现、露出的意思,与appear一样是个常见的不及物动词.

例句:随着年龄增长,一些特定的疾病就会出现. As we age,specific health problems emerge.

emerge的主语经常是问题、挑战,例句:美国导演Bill Condon想表达‘当问题出现时,很多人会试图去掩盖它’,即:Problems emerge and some people try to sweep them under the rug.

例句:当孩子逐渐进入青春期,孩子和家长都会面临很多新的挑战,As children approach their adolescence, new challenges emerge.

例句:《经济学人》的作者在聊天中获取灵感,表达为:From office dialogues, stories emerge.

三、应用

1)翻译

老问题一直都存在,新问题也开始暴露出来。

Old problems remain, and new problems are beginning to emerge.

Old questions exist, and new questions are going to emerge.

2)场景:那天晚些时候一些细节开始出现

 造句:Later in the day a few details started to emerge.

场景:十一假期快结束了,返程高峰也将显现。

造句:Travel peak start to emerge as the National Day holiday draws to a close.
