Danger! Bear Children Ahead

Imagine that you are watching Avengers in a movie theater. When Thor is throwing his hammer at the evil and you are really enjoying it, a kid, sitting right behind you, bursts out crying for more popcorn and Coke. His parents fail to talk some sense into him. He begins to make a fuss about it, which ruins your mood for the movie. As you are hesitating about telling him off, he snatches your popcorn from your hand with it spilled all over. You get mad and even want to punch him in the face but his parents just comfort you, "don’t take it so seriously.He is just a kid".

Such a kid is not unusual now. In China, they’ve infamously won a name of bear children or brats. They are naughty, disobedient and spoiled. Above all, they seek to get their way all the time. Bratty though they are, their parents and grandparents still continue to pamper them without any principles at all.

At the same time,there was a maintenance guy drilling at the wall outside the room. Noise soon filled the air. There was a post inviting various comments on Weibo,a Twitter-like microblog. Miss Cheng was on a homeward subway with packed snack smelt of delicious. At that, a 7-or-8 bear child came up in an attempt to grab the snack from her. Shocked, she pulled the bag back while the boy clutched it and growled that he wanted it. The scared lady gave in to what he had wanted. He took a bite of the snack as if for granted. Meanwhile, she noticed that his parents were sitting nearby the whole time. They didn’t scold him. Instead, they said to him, "Take your time. When you’re finished, go ask for more". When Miss Cheng posted what had happened to her online, it turned out that the bear child had had repeat conducts and countless innocent people had fallen prey to him.”

Brats would harm people without being chastened by their savage behavior. How could we deal with it, then?

To Parents：

It’s essential to set up several rules which should be carried out strictly. Children, whether bratty or not, will go for crying or throw a tantrum if you don’t let them get their way. However, the key lies in commitments to rules. If they cry, let them cry; if they make a scene for no reason, say no to whatever they try to get at. They will come to understand who’s really in charge when their tricks don’t work.

To Grandparents:

Sometimes, parents stick to their plan quite well but their parents would undermine all the work they’ve done. When two kids are fighting over a toy, you try to tell them that sharing is good. But upon seeing the situation, especially when your kid is close to tears, grandparents will probably buy a new one for them so everyone is happy. Despite the happy ending, your kids will never learn what sharing means. Therefore, always bear in mind getting grandparents on board in advance.

When facing bear children, many netizens have offered some original solutions. “When my 11-year cousin came to my home, he messed up all my comics and stomped hard on them. I was so furious that I cracked several sealed boxes open which have my old quiz books in them. I gave the books to my aunt, telling her that study is vital for boys at his age. Whereas my aunt was genuinely grateful, I could see a gloomy look on my cousin’s face upon their leaving, which really made my day.” posted a Weibo user.

As a stranger to bear children, the public has every right to say no to their stupid requests and teach them the right from wrong. If their parents are as unreasonable as their bear child, call the police or other authorities to help out. Justice should be done no matter how old they are.

Kids are kids, after all. It is true that they are born to be naughty. But it is adults that should take up the responsibilities of helping them grow up soundly. Behind every bear child stand two negligent parents,who could spoil their children’s bright future. If they don’t step in timely, law will do.
