她是谁？

She was born on November 7, 1867.

Both of her parents were teachers.

Her mother died from tuberculosis（肺结核） when she was only 10 years old.

Even though She was very intelligent and a top student in her secondary school, she couldn’t be admitted into the male-only University of Warsaw(华沙大学).

Without enough financial resources to support higher education, she had to earn a living as a tutor and spent as much spare time as possible to study maths, chemistry and physics.

She was eventually enrolled at Sorbonne University(索邦大学) in Paris and dedicated herself to studying, but her health was threatened by poor diet because she only had little money.

She obtained her master’s degree in physics and another degree in mathematics.

She married a French physicist in 1895, but they were working on different projects.

When she found radioactivity, her husband decided to put aside his projects to help her discoveries and research.

She worked with her husband to discover the radioactive element, polonium(钋) and radium(镭).

Tragically, her spouse was killed in a traffic accident. After that, with great grief, she took her husband’s position to teach students and became the first female professor at Sorbonne University.

She said:“I believe that science has great beauty. A scientist in his laboratory is not a mere technician; he is also a child confronting natural phenomena that impress him as though they were fairy tales.”

She was the first woman to win two Nobel Prizes, for physics in 1903 and for chemistry in 1911.
