Chinese research vessel departs for new ocean expedition

Chinese research vessel(船,容器,血管) Dayang Yihao left the eastern city of Qingdao on Monday , taking researchers on a 230-day scientific ocean expedition (探险,考察).

Within the first 150 days of the voyage(航行), researchers will conduct(进行,组织) surveys (调查,测量) on resources, environment and biodiversity(生物多样性) in the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic , according to China's ocean affairs administration(管理,行政).

For the remaining(剩下的) 80 days ,researchers will obtain (获得) samples(样品) and data in a seabed(海底)polymetallic sulphide ore in the southwestern part of the Indian Ocean. China secured an approval from the International Seabed Authority in 2011 to explore a polymetallic sulphide ore (矿石) deposit(存款,押金,沉积物) .

Dayang Yihao is a 5,600-ton vessel with equipment for geophysics ,marine chemisty,and biological and acoustic research .

During the entire mission , the ship is expected to sail more than 23,900 nautical miles and return to Qingdao in July 2019.
