Shenzhen launches super-computer project

Jun. 5, 2009  - Shenzhen, a major city in Guangdong Province of South China, yesterday officially started the super-computer project, the Shanghai Securities News reported.

A high-performance computing center, to be located near Shenzhen University Town in Nanshan District, is estimated to involve a total investment of RMB 790 million, of which RMB 200 million will be provided by China's Ministry of Science and Technology.

High performance computers with a speed of 1,000 trillion calculations per second will be installed in the center, which is expected to be operational at the end of 2010.

The center will be able to meet the calculation needs used for providing public information in South China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan as well as Southeast Asian countries, according to the report.
