The Future of the Olympics
Abstract
The Interdisciplinary Committee for Modern Olympic Games (ICMG) of COMAP is interested in exploring creative choices, strategies, and policies to ensure the success of the Olympics and continue to connect the world through sports. To support the work of ICMG, I suggest establishing indicators to measure the impact of hosting the Olympics from multiple perspectives, including economic, land use, human satisfaction (athletes and spectators), travel, future improvement opportunities, host city/nation reputation, and other criteria determined by the team. Based on feasibility, implementation timeline, and potential strategy impact on the indicators, I recommend that ICMG take the following measures:
Develop economic indicators, including the return on investment, fiscal expenditure, employment, and growth factors for the host city/nation.Establish land use indicators, considering the impact of Olympic venues and other infrastructure on land and temporary land and buildings used during the competition period.Evaluate human satisfaction indicators for athletes and spectators, including collecting information through questionnaires, social media feedback, and other data collection methods.Evaluate travel edicators, including the transportation conditions and convenience for participants and spectators, traffic congestion, and environmental impact.Establish future improvement opportunity indicators, considering the long-term impact on city infrastructure and social effects after hosting the Olympics and developing improvement plans Evaluate host city/nation reputation indicators, including news coverage worldwide, social media, feedback from participants and spectators, and other factors.Develop corresponding indicators and evaluation methods based on other criteria determined by the team.
These recommendations need to be considered comprehensively for feasibility and implementation timeline to ensure the comprehensiveness and accuracy of the indicators. At the same time, it is necessary to consider the potential impact of strategies on indicators when making decisions and formulating strategies to ensure that ICMG can make wise decisions and provide an unforgettable Olympic sports event for people around the world.

ICMG proposes establishing indicators to measure the impact of hosting the Olympic Games from multiple perspectives, including the economy, land use, human satisfaction (athletes and spectators), travel, future improvement opportunities, host city/country reputation, and other criteria determined by your team. The following are some strategies and policies that could help achieve these goals:
Conduct a comprehensive analysis of the potential economic impacts of hosting the Olympic Games, including direct and indirect effects. Consider the short-term and long-term economic benefits and costs for the host city and country. Establish a monitoring system to track the economic impacts during and after the games.
Develop a sustainable land use plan that balances the needs of the Olympic Games with the needs of the host city and country. Consider the environmental impacts of the games, such as the carbon footprint, and develop a plan to mitigate these impacts.
Ensure a high level of human satisfaction among athletes and spectators by creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere for all participants. Develop policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion and ensure accessibility for people with disabilities.
Develop a comprehensive transportation plan that considers the needs of athletes, spectators, and local residents. Establish efficient and sustainable transportation systems that can reduce traffic congestion and pollution during the games.
Identify opportunities for future improvement and legacy projects that can benefit the host city and country beyond the games. Consider the long-term benefits and costs of these projects and develop a plan to monitor their progress.
Develop policies and strategies to enhance the reputation of the host city and country, both during and after the games. Consider the potential impact of the games on national and international tourism, and develop a plan to promote the host city and country as a tourist destination.
Monitor and evaluate the indicators established by ICMG and adjust policies and strategies as necessary to achieve the desired outcomes.
