Water. the thought was cooling, but it was immediately lowed by an overpowering, violent thirst.
Ying rubbed her lower back and peered into the distance.
The stars weren't out yet and there was a rosy afterglow above the western horizon.
The dark outline of the mountains was beautiful.
The wind had got up, a warm wind but refreshing.
If only they had enough to eat and drink and were here on holiday, it would beautiful place to be.
But not right now, not when the two of them were fighting for their lives.
Ying gazed numbly westwards and made herself swallow. If her lover was here, she thought, it would put him in a poetic mood.
Strangely, the thought of him left her numb too.
The feelings she had had before were gone. He was right, she thought, love is a feeling that doesn't last with the lack of water.

水呀，一想这个字，心里都清凉了，但随后，又会拽来一股汹涌的渴。莹儿揉揉腰，吃力地望去。
星星还没出来，西山上还有洇渗而去的红。山黑黝黝的，变成了很美的剪影。开始有了风，虽仍是暖风，但清沥了些。
要是水足饭饱，来这儿游玩，当然美极了。但面对挣命的莹儿们，一切都虚设了。
莹儿木然地望一眼西山，费劲地动动喉结。她想，要是那冤家见到这景致，不定会咋样发诗兴呢。
怪的是，此刻想到他，心也木木的，没以前那样的感觉了。她想，他说得对，爱情是一种感觉，不就仅仅是缺水吗？那感觉就淡多了。（摘自《白虎关》307页）
