1:give one a hand; foot the bill...

1. give someone a hand

它的意思是"帮谁一下忙",to help someone with something.

例句:Could you give me a hand with these suitcases?

2. foot the bill

意思是付账,to pay for something.

例句:His parents footed the bill for his college education.

3. blow-out

We arrived two hours late at the big blow-out for Charlie's birthday because our

car had a blow-out. 有的时候,一个词汇有好几种解释,在这句话里第一个blow-out是指规模很大的聚会(a large meal, often a celebration with family or friends, at which people may

eat too much),第二个blow-out是指汽车的轮胎炸了(a sudden explosion of a tire on a road vehicle while it is moving quickly).

4. lock, stock and barrelhook, line and sinker

lock, stock, and barrel: including all orevery part of something.

例句:Wehad to move our things lock, stock, and barrel to the other side of thecountry.

Mr.Rockefeller bought the whole oil company lock, stock and barrel.

hook, line and sinker: if someone believessomething hook, line, and sinker, they believe a lie completely, used toemphasize that someone has been completely tricked or deceived.

例句:Whatan idiot! He believed the whole story hook, line, and sinker!

Iwarned Sally not to believe that man's stories about how rich he was, but sheswallowed them hook, line and sinker. After she married him, she found out thathe owed everyone in his office money.

hook, line and sinker虽然和lock, stock and barrel一样是全部的意思,可是它还带有受骗的意思。
