This is my first time writing an article in English, so I may have some grammar, tense and spelling mistakes, please understand.
Foreword
In my opinion, many Chinese people want “abroad” and see the world, because the Chinese government forbid Chinese people to access the internet(foreign networks), and set the “Great Firewall of China”, but that’s still a lot of people want to escape from the Chinese government’s banned include me.
In the first half of 2022, I find a VPN(萌猪辅助) but not long time this VPN is banned, so I had to find a new VPN, when I surf the internet I stumble upon an article it’s about how to log in Twitter if you are Chinese, in the article the author share a VPN(枫叶网络) this have me again can see the foreign network, in the first half of 2022 I just look YouTube because I just have a computer a short time, but when I have a new VPN I know more forums and websites, so I’m very excited. I felt like I had finally been let out of a digital cage and was able to explore the full potential of the internet.
Because I first used VPN for not a long time, so second buy VPN I made a mistake, I mistook the windows terminal for a VPN, and it wastes 75 RMB. But maybe that is good because it makes me understand some terminal knowledge.
When I realized I had made a mistake, I corrected the error immediately. The specific operation process will not be detailed, the whole process is nervous and exciting. Anyway, I made it in the end.
If you are the first to visit YouTube, you may be uncomfortable and unused but reassured it’s normal because you are used to Chinese video culture. Here I compare YouTube to bilibili. However, it is not on the same level, but bilibili is the biggest video website in China.
In my opinion, there are many differences but the biggest difference is the video style. In bilibili, most videos are video spoofs, films and cartoon editing or interesting events. Have you noticed that videos do not need an author to appear, so in bilibili maybe 10 videos are without the author, and some authors even show their faces as welfare. But on YouTube, you can see the author in almost all videos, because most videos’ content is about themselves.
Actually, you can’t blame the authors, because bilibili was an ACG(Animation, Comic, Game) and two-dimensional site from the beginning.
Finally, I want to talk about its advantages, YouTube blends short and long videos, so it doesn’t show up like douyin both have short and long videos, in the shorts part just has short videos in addition to this you nearly see fewer than 10 minutes videos, This classification allows viewers to see what they want to see more specifically.
Next, I want to talk about chatGBT, which also focuses on this article.
On the internet, many people say chatGBT will replace browsers even if they never use it. So I’m very curious about how powerful it is.
I’ve used it for a couple of days, so I have summarized the following points:
A. If you use Chinese to ask it, it can use Chinese to answer your question, if you use English it uses English too. It has a detail when you use Chinese, it can standstill a little time but if you use English it’s very quick to answer your questions, Open AI doesn’t select translate into English and translate again, it chooses to let it learn the language by itself, maybe you think that not a big deal but it starts from scratch admirable.
B. I ask it the question “Can you recommend some books to English beginners?” and it recommends me some books then I pick up one of its recommend’s a book and ask “why are recommend this book?” and it introduced a bunch of the book, but it’s impossible for me to buy it because I’m used to reading a lot of people’s reviews of something, and decide it buy or not in the end. And the point browser does very well, I can see a lot of people sharing their opinions on something, just this point browser will not be replaced.
C. A very interesting point is that before writing this article I wanted to use chatGBT to outline for me because I’ve heard of someone using it to write articles, that one shock me, it’s so fast and comprehensive, that reminds me of a Chinese software----作业帮, it’s a search topic and tell the right answer’s software, a lot of people questioned his existence when he first appeared, patriarch and teacher consider student will never to write homework but now 作业帮 is every student has on their phone, 作业帮 is the best teacher when teacher away patriarch wouldn’t do topic. ChatGBT is very similar to 作业帮 just it can tell you everything right answer, the point is how you want to use it.
In conclusion, my first encounter with foreign networks was a profound experience that shaped my perspectives and understanding of the world.
As someone who has experienced both the restricted Chinese internet and the open foreign networks, I understand the benefits and drawbacks of internet censorship. On one hand, censorship can help maintain social stability and prevent the spread of harmful or dangerous information. On the other hand, restrictions on access to information can limit creativity and innovation, as well as stifle free expression and political discourse.
The internet has the power to connect us to the world and help us grow in ways we never thought possible.
We hope that this article has given you a new appreciation for the power of the internet and encouraged you to keep exploring its endless possibilities.
