Last week my youngest son and I visited my father at his new home in Tucson Arizona. He moved there a few years ago and I was eager to see his new place and meet his friends.
上周，我和我的小儿子去了父亲在亚利桑那州图森市的新家。他搬过去好几年了，我很想看看他的新家，见见他的朋友。

My earliest memories of my father are a tall handsome successful man devoted to his work and his family but uncomfortable with his children. As a child I loved him; as a school girl and young adult I feared him and felt bitter about him．He seemed unhappy with me unless I got straight A’s and unhappy with my boyfriends if their fathers were not as “successful” as he was．Whenever I went out with him on weekends I used to struggle to think up things to say feeling on guard．
父亲在我最初的记忆中是一个高大英俊的成功男人，他全身心地投入工作和家庭，但和我们在一起时，让人不安。作为一个孩子，我爱他；作为一名女生和年轻人我怕他，感到痛苦。他似乎对我不满意，除非我得了A，如果我的男朋友们的父亲没有他那样“成功”，他也会对他们不满意。每当我周末和他外出时，我都会想好对策，提防着父亲。

On the first day of my visit we went out with one of my father’s friends for lunch at an outdoor café．We talked along that afternoon, did some shopping, ate on the street table, and laughed over my son’s funny facial expressions. Gone was my father’s critical air and strict rules. Who was this person I knew as my father, who seemed so friendly and interesting to be around? What had held him back before?
在我到访的第一天，我们和我父亲的一个朋友去一家户外咖啡馆吃午饭。那天下午我们一起聊天，购物，吃路边摊，对着我儿子滑稽的面部表情哈哈大笑。父亲的挑剔和严格消失了。这是我认识的父亲吗？他看起来友好而又有趣？是什么让他不再像从前那样？

The next day dad pulled out his childhood pictures and told me quite a few stories about his own childhood. Although our times together became easier over the years, I never felt closer to him at that moment. After so many years I’m at last seeing another side of my father. And in so doing I’m delighted with my new friend. My dad in his new home in Arizona is back to me from where he was.
第二天，父亲拿出他童年的照片，给我讲了很多关于他自己童年的故事。虽然这么多年以来我们在一起的日子变得轻松了，但那一刻我感觉到离他如此之近。多年以后，我终于看到了我父亲的另一面。我很开心有了一位新朋友，我的父亲从他亚利桑那州的新家回到了我的身边。
