Summary practice of “Issue Overview: Should we have zoos?”

Even though we can easily find the Panamanian golden frog in the zoos across the United States in these days, it’s very unlikely that we can find them in the wild due to a fungal disease in 2007.

After years of hard working on breeding the golden frogs in the zoos, breeders would love to reintroduce the golden frogs in the wild again. However, there are couple of concerns such as rapid deforestation, big construction projects and the presence of toxic fungi.

On the other hand, Many solid evidences have shown the side effects for animals living in a zoo or an aquarium might outweight the sctientific benefits.

What Is Conservation?

The argument regards the preservation and enlargment of  the varsity of species: on one hand is trying to save plants and animals; while on the other hand is trying to enlarge the kinds of plants and animals, in order to maintian a balanced ecosystem.

In order to save plants and animals, people normally try to creating a protected natural resource, which maybe the best solution to maintain species, because it can help animals thrive in their own environment. Or, many believe saving them in a “lab” can have a better research purpose and significant results on preserve the diversity of a species.

What Are The Main Arguments Supporting Zoos?

Zoo, indeed, fits perfectly into both methods, because they are not only housing species to observe and study better, in forms of tours, camps, arts, social media and video conferences; They also believe that animals are treated well in there these days, for example their “homes” do not described as cages any more; Third, many zoos are responsible for rescuing animals from abuse or mistreating. We cannot deny that zoos play a significant role in terms of educating people to aware of protecting animals, breeding endangered species.

They also have partnership to raise funding creating a similar environment inside zoos. However, a similar environment can never replace the natural habitats.

What Are The Main Arguments Against Zoos?

Many argue that zoos are only served as human entertainment purposes, and wild animals are suffering from physical and mental illness. People should treat animals equally and fairly, no matter how regulation enforced, wild animals are still mistreated quite often.

from a financial perspective, people believe that zoos are expensive to maintain and having less effect on conservation project.

Conclusion

The argument seems to continue and expand further in a quite long time, because both sides have strong points and both sides have advantages and disadvantages.
