It’s unavoidable for me to admire the students in UIUC of how abundant resources they are enjoying. I envy them very much! Take the financial and accounting students as an example, the Gies business college hired Mr. Tim Reierson to conduct a practical program to help their students to gain both academic and non-academic skills.Tim used to work for PWC for more than 30 years and he enjoyed extraordinary success in his auditing career. Results-focused leader responsible for developing and delivering a memorable and distinctive student experience that inspires, motivates and empowers MSA students: 1) to actively engage in improving important technical and non-technical business skills, including cultural dexterity, networking, relationship-building, and other leadership skills; 2) to participate in one-on-one professional coaching and mentoring; 3) to engage in a variety of tailored business soft skill presentations, workshops and other programming activities; 4) to take advantage of extensive recruiting and job search preparation services; and, 5) to successfully adapt to and integrate with a diverse college environment. As one of their participants, our team had a chance to mingle with the master students of accounting. A few days before our formal meeting with these students, we had a short meeting with Tim. He introduced himself as well as the background of this meeting. The description of the schedule was quite attractive, because once we finish the conversation with students, we could enjoy pizza. Tim explained how we could offer our help: each of us was encouraged to share our work experience, of course, in English and move around and talk to as many students as we could. Also, we were supposed to answer questions and encourage communication. This meeting would become a preparation for meeting professionals from PWC in Chicago in a few weeks. The arrangement for master students were excellent. They could not only study theory in the classrooms from experiential professors, but also were able to enhance their social networking and communication skills. I wish I could have that chance in my university or even in my MBA study phase! All the team members enjoyed the conversation with master students and we promoted our corporation and encouraged the young students to apply internship in our bank. I was impressed that most students were very confident and could express their thoughts very clearly. Some of them abandoned their previous career to get further education here, which is awesome. Through this networking activity, we practiced oral English, enlarged our social networking and shared our experience to help young students. What an enjoyable and meaningful experience. After the event, we received a Thank you letter from Tim. The etiquettes word choices and the format would benefit me. It’s great experience to be part of this activity.
