    'No conflict and non-confrontation' is the prerequisite for building a new model of major-country relationship between China and the United States. Studies show that there were about 15 cases of rises of emerging powers in history, 11 of which were involved in confrontation and war with the established powers. However, we now live in a different world. China, the United States and the rest of the world are now gradually becoming a global community with a shared future with closing ties. Therefore neither of us will be benefited from confrontation, and war will lead us nowhere. The declaration of no conflict and non-confrontation means that both China and the US need to follow the trend of globalization, change the negative expectations of China-US relations, remove strategic distrust between China and the United States and build confidence in the future of China-US relations.

    Mutual respect is the basic principle for building a new model of China-US relations. We live in a world of great diversity. As two major countries with different social system, history, culture, China and the U.S. are connected by interests intertwined, so mutual respect is of paramount importance. Only by respecting each other's systems and paths selected by their people, and respecting each other's core interests and concerns, can we seek common ground while preserving differences, and achieve harmony in China-US relations.

    Win-win cooperation is the only option to build a this new model. There is an enormous need and vast potential for boosting bilateral cooperation in all fields. Moreover, looking around the world, from counter-terrorism, cyber security and nuclear non-proliferation to climate change, and from peace in the Middle East to Africa's development, both China and the United States act significant roles inside with mutual participation, cooperation and contribution. Hence, only by consisting and enhancing cooperation can China and the United States achieve win-win results, which can not only benefit for China and the US, but also for the rest of the world.
