Salute to the Unknown Heroes
致敬无名英雄
2020, a momentous year for China.
2020年，于中国而言，是个不平凡的一年。
A monstrous scourge runs amok in this soil.
一场可怕的灾难在这片土地上肆虐。
Life is engulfed by darkness and fear.
黑暗、恐惧，笼罩着我们的生活。
We are terrified.
我们惶恐。
We are lost.
我们不知所措。
We are grieved.
我们沮丧。
We are outraged.
我们义愤填膺。
Look around, the deserted streets, the gated cities, the mounting disaster,
四处，冷清的街道，封锁的城市，加剧的灾难
the world puts on a dire mask,
世界戴上了可怕的面具
It becomes unmerciful，it becomes dreadful.
它变得如此无情, 它变得令人畏惧。
But there is a voice, so powerful, so heart-stirring, saying,
但有一个坚定的声音，如此有力，如此振奋人心：
“My fellow countrymen, don’t shed tears, don’t lose confidence”
同胞们，请不要哭泣，请不要失去信心
That voice is from legions of Chinese.
那是来自于一大群中国人的声音。
Once a ubiquitous but invisible presence,
那些曾经无处不在却被人忽视的存在，
now they are taking the grueling task, standing on the front line and combating the intangible foe.
如今，他们身负艰巨的任务，站在最前线，对抗着无影无形的敌人。
When most of us are in a panic,
当我们中的多数人尚处恐慌之中，
these unknown heroes
这些无名英雄们
forsake family reunion and personal interests
放弃了家庭的团聚和个人的利益，
for the lifeline of billions of Chinese people.
为十几亿中国人抢救生命线。
Though with tears in their eyes for the family they left behind,
离家时，他们眼中饱含着泪水，
they are obliged to become guardians for this country and its people,
可他们义无反顾地选择了成为这个国家和人民的卫士，
Being human like all of us,
像我们每个人一样，
they couldn’t be closer to the ordinary life,
他们都是再平凡不过的人，
but we see their heroism and salt-of-the-earth personality .
但我们从他们身上看到了英雄气概和高尚品格。
The world has kissed our soul with its pain,
世界用它的痛，轻吻我们的灵魂，
asking for its return in songs.
让我们还它以歌。
It is these unknown heroes
而正是这些无名英雄
who are leading us to overcome the tough times.
带领着我们，共度难关。
Our painfulness and sorrowfulness give way to the resurgent optimism.
我们重拾乐观,不再痛苦和忧伤。
We are singing a song in return,
我们正共唱一首歌回应世界带给我们的痛,
and facing the reality with immutable and resolute faith.
以坚定的信念面对现实。
The disaster has taken the wind out of our sails,
灾难打消了我们的气焰，
rejoicing in the suffering of the earth.
它对人间的苦难幸灾乐祸。
It is these unknown heroes
而正是这些无名英雄
who are leading us to brace for the disaster.
带领着我们，做好准备应对这场灾难。
Bad news and frustration will never overwhelm us.
坏消息和挫折不会压垮我们。
Look, we are resetting our sails to fly aloft,
看吧，我们正重新扬帆起航,
and plucking up the courage to face the rough waves.
鼓足勇气去面对惊涛骇浪。
2020 is destined to be a distinctive year.
2020注定是一个不平凡的一年。
No one can predict the future.
没有人可以预知未来。
But some of us can bend the arc of history towards the better.
但是我们中的一些人可以让历史朝着更好的方向发展。
We may not know the names of these people,
我们可能没有办法知道这些人的名字,
and may have never seen these people.
甚至素未谋面。
But let us express the highest respect for these loving and selfless ones.
