【嵌牛导读】:Chinese telecommunications company Huawei has used its Connect 2017 conference to remind us that its core operational foundation does indeed still rest in telco and connected devices – but, there is now a very specific and dedicated focus on working to build out (and finesse) its cloud platform and deeper level developer tools

【嵌牛鼻子】:Huawei, Cloud, EI, AI;

【嵌牛提问】:True beauty of algorithms?

【嵌牛正文】:Explaining that a cloud instance on its own is worth comparatively little, Huawei insists that ‘connection’ is a vital component of the way software application development must be brought to life in the online era.

Connection+Cloud

As such then, Huawei has launched “Connection+Cloud” as a formal strategy and the firm now says that these two elements of technology are the dual drivers of any digitisation strategy or enterprise network solution.

This strategy is meant to provide network connections that are more comprehensive and network management that is more intelligent in scenarios such as access, WAN, data centre and interconnection.

“Building a digital dual-engine platform is Huawei’s future product strategy. With the advantage of cloud-network collaboration, Huawei combines software and hardware capability, datacentre high-speed interconnection capability [as well as] cloud service innovation capability,” said president of Huawei’s products & solutions, David Wang.

Wang thinks that in the future, the cloud will exist ‘wherever connections exist’ – and says that [in the very near future] every enterprise will ultimately need a network that has stronger connectivity, management that is more intelligent and has the ability to work with platforms that are more open to boost its business model innovation and drive new growth.

In other product related news for software application developers, Zheng Yelai, president of Huawei’s Cloud BU (business unit) and president of the IT product line, unveiled the firm’s new Enterprise Intelligence (EI) software and offered a key developer/enterprise software pain point that we need to overcome.

Single-point AI pain point

Yelai thinks that although Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now widely recognise as a gold-mining engine, the problem is that AI research and application projects are too often too closely linked to single point AI techniques.

These simple applications (says Yelai) cannot satisfy the needs of many enterprises. In particular, the supply chain, manufacturing and management systems of large- and medium-sized enterprises require more complex AI applications.

“The best cloud must be able to deliver the services that customers need and AI needs to create more value for enterprises. To make this happen, we have to integrate single-point techniques and apply them, together, in sophisticated scenarios,” said Yelai. “We’re positioning Huawei Cloud [to] provide AI, IoT, computing and storage capabilities that provide enterprises with intelligent cloud services.”

Through Huawei Cloud, Yelai says his firm is essentially exposing its R&D to governments, enterprises, partners and developers.

Huawei Enterprise Intelligence (EI) features:

Basic platform services including machine learning, deep learning and graph analysis platforms, alongside AI training, reasoning and indexing platforms.

General AI services including API services such as visual recognition API, voice recognition API and natural language API.

Scenario-specific solutions — Huawei works with partners to create solutions for AI, cloud computing and IoT scenarios.

Heterogeneous computing platform: Huawei has experience in system engineering, chipset, hardware and underlying software and is able to offer the three types of intelligent cloud services.

Huawei’s EI technology is able to identify abnormal data based on historical data and data changes and issue warnings in the event of any anomalies.

True beauty of algorithms

Deeper into Huawei developer tools, the firm’s One Page Project dashboard is used for Agile development.  Developers are able to examine code quality and track project development against industry best practice.

Complexities and repetition can be examined to help coders and programmers fix problems in live production. The firm’s Automated Cloud Pipeline function allows developers to launch twice as fast as normal with visualized scheduling options. Huawei DevCloud is presented with a user friendly dashboard and the firm did take the time to showcase its toolset’s core functions.

DevCloud is clearly a story all of its own and the Computer Weekly Developer Network will follow up with additional reporting.

The Chinese proverb that sums up Huawei’s thoughts on the software application developer landscape and its approach to open community based team development is:

If you want to go fast, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.
