练习材料:

Lesson 15 Good news

The secretary told me that Mr. Harmsworth would see me.

ðə ˈsɛkrətri təʊld miː ðæt Mr. Harmsworth wʊd siː miː.

I felt very nervous when I went into his office. He did not look up from his desk when I entered.

aɪ fɛlt ˈvɛri ˈnɜːvəs wɛn aɪ wɛnt ˈɪntuː hɪz ˈɒfɪs. hiː dɪd nɒt lʊk ʌp frɒm hɪz dɛsk  wɛn aɪ ˈɛntəd.

After I had sat down, he said that business was very bad.

ˈɑːftər aɪ hæd sæt daʊn, hiː sɛd ðæt ˈbɪznɪs wɒz ˈvɛri bæd.

He told me that the firm could not afford to pay such large salaries.

hiː təʊld miː ðæt ðə fɜːm kʊd nɒt əˈfɔːd tuː peɪ sʌʧ lɑːʤ ˈsæləriz.

Twenty people had already left. I knew that my turn had come.

ˈtwɛnti ˈpiːpl hæd ɔːlˈrɛdi lɛft. aɪ njuː ðæt maɪ tɜːn hæd kʌm.

'Mr. Harmsworth,' I said in a weak voice.

'Mr. Harmsworth,' aɪ sɛd ɪn ə wiːk vɔɪs.

'Don't interrupt,' he said. Then he smiled and told me I would receive an extra thousand pounds a year!

dəʊnt ˌɪntəˈrʌpt,' hiː sɛd. ðɛn hiː smaɪld ænd təʊld miː aɪ wʊd rɪˈsiːv ən ˈɛkstrə   ˈθaʊzənd paʊndz əjɪə!

任务配置: L0+L1+L4

知识笔记:

/r/(bbc英语视频con_other_6)

secretary  ˈsɛkrətri

very      ˈvɛri

from      frɒm

salaries   ˈsæləriz

already    ɔːlˈrɛdi

interrupt   ɪntəˈrʌpt

receive    rɪˈsiːv

extra     ˈɛkstrə

英音中有些单词中的r不发音,例如car, bored, hear, after。当r后面跟的单词以元音开头时,r要发音,例如:my car is blue /maɪ kɑːr ɪz bluː/,r和is有连读的效果。

练习感悟:

1.依旧是嘴皮子磨破的一天。

2.两个单词之间的衔接不好,今天的材料读起来不顺口。
