If so, as the mother monkeys gets older, the infant monkeys she gives birth to will be in lower level of cortisol, which makes the firstborn monkeys produce the highest level of cortisol in stimulation as the passage displays. And it is also likely to explain that the first-time mother monkeys have higher levels of cortisol because they are usually younger than those who have had offspring.

The second explanation is that, as mammal, mother monkeys will breast their children and the milk may contain different levels of hormone, which attributes to the different levels of stimulation of babies after they absorb it. According to the study, the first-time mother monkeys have higher levels of cortisol, which may also have more abundant cortisol in their milk. Therefore, when the first-born infant monkeys are breasted by such milk, they will ingest much cortisol in the body and behave active in stimulating situations. When the mother monkeys get pregnant at the second time, the cortisol in the milk decreases, so the younger babies will absorb lower levels of cortisol than the first-borns.

Finally, there is also an alternative which is related to the environment. For the first-born monkeys, they have few brothers and sisters and get used to have enough attention from their mother after being born. However, when the mother monkey gives birth to new babies and has to divide her concentration, the first-born will have a sense of change of their mother's attitude which makes them become more sensitive to the stimulation and have higher levels of cortisol. For the infant monkeys who are not first-born, they are born with the company of many brothers and sisters, so they may grow more moderate in characteristics and have lower levels of cortisol. For the first-time mother monkeys, they are pregnant for the first time without any children accompanying, so they will be more sensitive to the stimulations and display higher levels of cortisol as the passage mentions.

Their habitat is limited to areas warm enough to sustain the plants on which they feed and cold enough, at least some of the year, for the ice to cover the sea separating the islands, allowing the deer to travel over it. Unfortunately, according to reports from local hunters, the deer populations are declining. Since these reports coincide with recent global warming trends that have caused the sea ice to melt, we can conclude that the purported decline in deer populations is the result of the deer's being unable to follow their age-old migration patterns across the frozen sea.
