    新概念英语第二册 Lesson 46: Expensive and uncomfortable

    When a plane from London arrived at Sydney airport, workers began to unload a number of wooden boxes which contained clothing. No one could account for the fact that one of the boxes was extremely heavy. It suddenly occurred to one of the workers to open up the box. He was astonished at what he found. A man was lying in the box on top of a pile of woolen goods. He was so surprised at being disvocered that he did not even try to run away. After he was arrested, the man admitted hiding in the box before the plane left London. He had had a long and uncomfortable trip, for he had been confined to the wooden box for over eighteen hours. The man was ordered to pay ￡3,500 for the cost of the trip. The normal price of a ticket is ￡2,000!

    单词/词组：    

        - clothing

        cloth是作为做衣服、被褥、窗帘等等的原料的“布料”，是个不可数名词。日常语言较少用这个名词，较多用的是material或fabric。如果用作可数名词，a cloth则是一块“抹布”。这个名词作为不可数名词，没有复数。Clothes形式上是cloth的复数，其实意义并不相同，可以说是另外一个单词。

        Clothes是一个复数形的不可数名词，用于笼统地指“衣物。如果要加上可数的单位，要用另一个也是笼统地指“衣物”的不可数名词（单数）clothing。另外，clothing还有比clothes更为笼统抽象概括而且也更为正式的含义。【例如】clothing factory服装厂 / clothing industry服装业

好久没练习了，准备回归正常练习，没想到上来就遇到了一些常见词组的不熟悉的释义，并不是偏义，是自己不熟悉不了解的释义，基础不扎实了。
