The Wild West Radio Show about a good guy on his trusty horse Silver fighting for justice with his sidekick Tonto, the Indian, went on to become a national phenomenon. It morphed into comic books and a popular 1950s TV series. Now the team behind the successful Pirates the Caribbean franchise have revived The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp as Tonto. The story is a prequel in the sense that we get The Lone Ranger's back story told from Tonto's point of view, how he hooked up with the next lawyer called John Reid, and how together they became Wild West Vigilantes. Modern cinema technology allows of so extraordinary action scenes, so there's a lot of men jumping off horses, and then running and fighting on the top of moving trains.
Johnny Depp with Armie Hammer as The Lone Ranger. Well, to review and I'm joined by the writer and critic Matt Thorne who's in the studio. Matt, this film hasn't done that well in America. Did you like it?
I loved it. I can understand the bad reaction in America too. It has a terrible review, that so much so in fact that Johnny Depp and the director and the producer come out and said that the critics have killed the film, and that they've stopped being successful in American. I do think they got a point, 'cause it's a wonderful entertaining film from start to finish for me.
