cannot retrieve metalink for repository epel. please verify its path and try again

The way to solve this problem have two methods:

1.Through command line

Running this command will update the repo to use HTTP rather than HTTPS:

sudo sed -i "s/mirrorlist=https/mirrorlist=http/" /etc/yum.repos.d/epel.repo

You should then be able to update with this command:

 yum -y update

2.Through configutation file:

vi /etc/yum.repos.d/epel.repo

Remove the # before the baseurl which is under epel,add the # before mirrorlist ,then is OK:

[epel]

name=Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 6 - $basearch

baseurl=http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/$basearch

#mirrorlist=https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=epel-6&arch=$basearch

failovermethod=priority

enabled=1

gpgcheck=1

gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-EPEL-6

Then run command line:

yum makecache
