Dell’s Data Safe software suite comes on many Dell laptops and desktops. More often than not the end user does not use the program. A recent windows and or dell software update has broken many installations of the Dell Data Protection Suite. If you as an IT admin or the end user for that matter have the Windows Installer error message pops up every 10 mins or so you are bound to get annoyed. If you try to remove the components of the Dell Data Safe/Protection the proper way you run into a brick wall after you remove the middle-ware and drivers. The core program will not uninstall and you get the dreaded Windows Installer error message. Revo Uninstaller can install it 50% of the time but not all the time. There is a quick and dirty way to get rid of the error message so you or your end user can compute in peace once again.
Step One:
Browse to “*\Program Files\Dell” in Windows Explorer.
Step Two:
In *\Program Files\Dell” you will find a “Dell Data Protection” folder. Right click on the folder and rename it to “Dell Data Protection_old” and then close out of Windows Explorer.
Step Three:
Download and install CCleaner.
Step Four:
Run the registry cleaner tool in CCleaner. Once it is done it will display all the orphaned registry files including more than 30 for Dell Data Protection.
Step Five:
In CCleaner click on the “Fix Selected Issues” button on the bottom right hand side of the CCleaner program.
Step Six:
You will now have the option to fix the issues one by one or to “Fix All Selected Issues.” It is usually okay to fix everything at once. CCleaner gives you the option to back up the registry if you so choose in case something that has been deleted are needed.
Step Seven:
At this point the orphaned registry items have been removed from the system. Now you just need to restart the PC and you should be good to go.
