Symptoms

During install of 11.2 Grid Infrastructure, the following error occurred:

INS-40904 ORACLE_HOSTNAME does not resolve to a valid host name

Cause

The cause is DNS reverse lookup isn't returning correct value for specified host

Solution

Oracle should not depend on DNS reserve lookup, it's tracked by unpublished bug 9574976.  The workaround is to fix the reserve lookup issue.
