Here's how I'd do it...

writeToParcel:

dest.writeByte((byte) (myBoolean ? 1 : 0));     //if myBoolean == true, byte == 1
readFromParcel:

myBoolean = in.readByte() != 0;     //myBoolean == true if byte != 0
