Offline Dictionary-Stardict, in Ubuntu

 

Stardict is a free dictionary software, hosted in Sourceforge.net, and it can be installed in multiple platforms, such as, Linux, Windows. Home page: http://stardict.sourceforge.net .

 

Installation is simple in Ubuntu, open Synaptic Package Manager, and select stardict and install. Or using command, 'apt-get install stardict'. After that, Stardict and default dictionaries will be installed.

Somehow, you want to install dictionaries, like Oxford or Longdao, that is easy as well. Go to dictionary link http://stardict.sourceforge.net/Dictionaries.php and download the desired dictionaries. And then, unpack the package with command,  'tar xvjf a.tar.bz2', the last step, copy the dictionary files to /usr/share/stardict/dic.

Plus:

The connection to official download link is slow, you can select one alternative dowload site,

http://debian.ustc.edu.cn/debian-uo/dists/sid/ustc/pool/stardict/ . The files are packed in .deb format.

Download the desired dictionary file, and then use command 'dpkg --unpack aaa.deb'. The dictionary files will be installed in /usr/share/stardict/dic/. Restart Stardict, and sort the dictionary entries.
