Hard Reset - DROID RAZR / RAZR MAXX by MOTOROLA

A hard reset may help with a blank or frozen screen, apps crashing or freezing, keypad/touchscreen problems, can't hear, device making noises, can't make or receive calls and device won't sync. Our Troubleshooting Assistant can help you with other device issues if you aren't currently using the tool.

 Warnings:
  • Performing a hard reset removes all data including the Google account, system data, app data, app settings and downloaded apps. Only perform a hard reset if absolutely necessary.
  • Pictures, videos and music are also removed. It's recommended to back up this data.

Notes:
  • Personal data such as Wi-Fi passwords, browser bookmarks, user dictionary, a list of installed Google Play apps and other customized settings can be backed up to and restored from Google's servers.
  • Disable Automatic Restore prior to performing a hard reset when attempting to determine whether a third-party app is the cause of an operating system / app issue.

Preferred Method

  1. From a Home screen, select Apps (located in the lower center).
  2. Select Settings.
     If the app icon is missing, select App menu filter (located at the top) then select All apps.
  3. Select Privacy.
  4. Select Factory Data Reset.
  5. Select Reset phone.
     If presented, enter the current passcode or draw the unlock pattern.
  6. Select Erase Everything.
     Allow up to 10 minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete.
  7. If necessary, refer to Initial Activation and Setup.

Alternate Method

  1. Power the device off.
     Press the power button then select Power off.
     If the device doesn't respond to input, press and hold the volume up/down key then press and hold the power button. When the device screen goes blank, release the power button while continuing to hold the volume up/down key then proceed with step 3.
  2. Press and hold the volume up/down key then press the power button.
  3. When presented with the Boot Mode Selection Menu, release all buttons/keys.
  4. Press the volume down key to select Recovery then press the volume up key.
  5. From the Droid triage screen:
    1. Press and hold the volume down key.
    2. Press and release the volume up key.
    3. Release the volume down key.
  6. Select wipe data or Factory Reset then press the power button.
     Use the volume keys to navigate options.
  7. Select Yes -- delete all user data then press the power button.
     Use the volume keys to navigate options.
     Data wipe may take several moments.
  8. Select reboot system now then press the power button.
     Use the volume keys to navigate options.
  9. If necessary, refer to Initial Activation and Setup.
