OpenCHAT INSTALL

DOWNLOADING
   OpenCHAT is freely avaiable from http://sourceforge.net/project/openchat/
   Please allways download the latest release.

PREREQUISITES
   In order to install OpenCHAT you will need a Java VM installed (JRE). I've been using the one
   from Sun Microsystems, which is freely avaiable for everyone at htt://java.sun.com/.

   Others Java VMs than Sun's one may not work. OpenCHAT have only been tested on Sun's JRE.
   I've tried the gij, the GNU libgcj which comes on some Linux Ditributions, but I've found
   some problems like strange Exceptions being thrown and latin characters being cut!

INSTALLING
   Untar the OpenCHAT-X.XX.tar.gz file and cd to the newly created directory:

   # tar -xzvf OpenCHAT-X.XX.tar.gz
   # cd OpenCHAT

   Startup the server and connect with your browser (see bellow).

STARTUP THE SERVER
   OpenCHAT is entirely written in Java.

   To start up the server, type the following in the OpenCHAT directory:

   # java -cp OpenCHAT.jar OpenCHAT

   or

   # java -jar OpenCHAT.jar

   Where java is your java interpreter. Sun's JRE is highly recommended.

CLIENT CONNECTING / CHATTING
   From any HTTP browser, whith frames support, type in the URL:

   http://your.server.com:8080/

   Where "your.server.com" is the IP number or domain of the server you've started up the OpenCHAT server.
