Oracle AIM

Oracle’s Application Implementation Methodology (AIM) is Oracle's project management methodology and implementation strategy.

AIM provides documentation templates that support the tasks that must be performed to assist the implementation participants in running and managing projects successfully. One typically doesn't use all the available templates, but pick those that will be useful to your project.

The methodology and structure

The methodology used is similar to traditional software project management methodologies. There are six phases within the project, these are:

MD050 & MD070

MD50 and MD70documents are AIM (Application Implementation   Methodology)documents for functional and Tech spec of Form and   Repots customization.  

MD050:

This document specifies various functional specification required for
 Techies to understand the functional requirement of Form or Report Customization and design.. This is prepared by Functional consultant to clarify the spec to Techies.  For any component like Report,Interface etc we have to first get the requirements as to what is the source ,destinations, what data should be moved and what functional validations would be required etc. All this would go into the MD050. Generally written by a non-technical people like Business Analysts or Functional Consultants.

MD070:  

This is technical specification prepared by the programmer based on
 MD50. This provides tech specs, PLSQL code for the Report and Form and helps to understand and modify if required in future.  MD070 is the technical document that is written to fulfill the functional requirement specified in MD050. It includes the approaches you take, pseudo code, validations,Data Sources, SQL Statements etc.

MDZIP or MDSHORT:

Many organizations combine MD50 and MD70 into a single document with a separate name like MDZIP or MDSHORT etc. The advantage of this consolidation is that the same document can be used for the functional part and later for the technical part. This is known to reduce the time for handling multiple versions of the document, approval cycles etc.
