五招搞定CET4翻译长句

长句情况①：一句话中会有多个逗号隔开的小短句

第一招——拆句子

拆分：目前，中国是世界最大的出口国之一。【2015.6 CET4】

      （中国）并正在吸引大量外国投资。

译文：At present, China is the world's largest exporter. China is attracting a lot of foreign investment.

第二招——变从句

主从：目前，中国是世界最大的出口国之一。（主）【2015.6 CET4】

      which并正在吸引大量外国投资。（从）

译文：At present, China, which is attracting a lot of foreign investment, is the world's largest exporter.

第三招——非谓语

谓非：目前，中国是世界最大的出口国之一。（谓）【2015.6 CET4】

      并正在吸引大量外国投资。（非谓）

译文：Attracting a lot of foreign investment, China is currently the world's largest exporter.

拆句子，逗号独立成句的翻译方法是备考四级翻译的同学必须掌握的翻译技巧，在此基础上，语法基础比较扎实的同学可以尝试用从句，甚至非谓语的翻译方法，让你的译文在众多普通翻译版本中脱颖而出。

 

长句情况②：由两个以上短句子组成的长句

第四招——理清句子之间逻辑关系

并列关系保持词性统一；对比（while）、因果（so或because），伴随关系（with, as）巧用连接词；

例：

1）并列关系：很多年轻人想要通过旅行体验不同的文化，丰富知识，拓宽视野。【2014.12 CET4】

参考译文：Many young people want to experience different cultures, enrich their knowledge and broaden their horizons through travelling.

2）对比关系：许多西方人会选咖啡，而中国人则会选茶。【2013.12 CET4】

参考译文：Some westerners tend to choose coffee, while the Chinese usually choose tea.

3）因果关系：由于食物对健康至关重要，好的厨师总是努力在谷物、肉类和蔬菜之间取得平衡。【2013.12 CET4】

参考译文：Food is crucial to health, so a good chef is insistently trying to seek balance between cereals, meat and vegetables.

注： 因果关系连接词使用要采取“单边主义”，意思就是说，中文里表达“因为……所以……；由于……因此……”是两个关联词，但是英文却只能采取“单边”的so或because。

4）伴随关系：随着技术和安全措施的改进，发生核事故的可能性完全可以降到最低程度。【2014.6 CET4】

参考译文一：With the improvement of technology and safety measures, the possibility of nuclear accidents can be dropped to a minimum extent.

参考译文二：As the technology and safety measures improve, the possibility of nuclear accidents can be dropped to a minimum extent.

 

长句情况③：句子的某一成分较长

第五招——长定语或长状语，灵活处理

1）长定语：构成现代世界基础的许多元素起源于中国。【2015.6 CET4】

参考译文一：Many elements consisting the foundation of the modern world originated in China.（定语后置）

参考译文二：Many elements which consist the foundation of the modern world originated in China.（定语从句）

注：英语定语过长时，要定语后置或用定语从句来处理

2）长状语：中国给数百万在线零售商以极具竞争力的价格销售商品的机会。【2015.6 CET4】

参考译文：China provides opportunities to millions of online retailers to sell goods at very competitive prices.（定语后置）

注：长状语尤其需要注意语序调整
