5.exert: 1)apply or bring to bear(a force, influence, or quality);=bring to bear,apply, maintain, exercise

2)make a physical or mental effort.=strive, try hard, make an/every effort, endeavor, do one's best

eg. 1)The moon exerts a force on the earth.

     2)  He needs to exert himself to try to find an answer.

6.falsify: 1)alter(information or evidence) so as to mislead; 2)prove(a statement or theory) to be false

eg. The charges against him include fraud, bribery, and falsifying business records.

7.legacy:1) a gift by will, esp of money or personal property; 2)something handed down or received from an ancestor or predecessor.

eg.The old system has left a mixed legacy.

8.hypothesis: a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.

eg.The statistics to prove or disprove his hypothesis will take years to collect.

9.comet: a celestial object consisiting of a nucleus of ice and dust and, when near the sun, a "tail" of gas and dust particles pointing away from the sun.

10.speculative: 1)engaged in, expressing, or based on conjecture rather than knowledge; 2)(of an investment) involving a high risk of loss

eg.Thousands of pensioners were persuaded to mortgage their homes to invest in speculative bonds.

11.paper-thin=extremely thin

12.deflection: the action or process of deflecting or being deflected

the deflection of something means making it change direction.

SUMMARY

1. I only learned 12 new words this time, but it is enough for me.

2.This was my first time to make a brand new mind-map by myself. Although it looks not good, i think i can do better in the future.

3.Iast but not least, I felt a little happy after reading this whole article even though I did not understand all. Actually, I want to give up at first cause it is hard for me. Things will better, right?
