从千百年前李白“蜀道难，难于上青天”那一声惊叹，到“一桥飞架南北，天堑变通途”的豪迈宣告，伴随着时代的发展和科技的进步，中国人的出行方式和便利程度也发生了巨大变化。本期视频中，我们带大家来到北京交通大学和中国铁道博物馆，一起来探寻中国铁路发展的艰辛历程和辉煌成就，见证新中国成立70年以来人们在出行体验方面的巨大变迁。
Yuan：Looking for someone?
袁：你在找谁呢？
Fan：Oh hi! I’m really glad to see you here. I know that trains are your expertise. Right? I’m actually here to see this train. Old trains are very fascinating to me.
范：哦，你好！很高兴在这里遇到你。我知道你是火车方面的专家。我今天到这里来就是来看火车的。我非常喜欢老式火车。
Yuan：You’re not wrong. I am very knowledgeable when it comes to trains. It is my major, after all. But I’m more interested in new trains instead of old ones.
袁：没错。在火车方面我是内行。那毕竟是我的专业。但是相对于老式火车，我对新式列车更感兴趣。
Fan：High-speed trains? I know all about them. I take them all the time.
范：你是说高速列车吗？这方面我很了解。我经常坐高铁。
Yuan：Well, it’s one thing when you’re on board as a passenger. It’s a completely different experience when you are behind the scenes.
袁：嗯，作为乘客乘坐高铁是一回事。但是探寻幕后的故事却是另一回事。
Fan：Ok, you’ve caught my interest. Where can I go to really get behind the scenes then?
范：好吧，你成功地引起了我的兴趣。我到哪儿才能发现幕后的故事呢？
Yuan：I think I know just the place.
袁：我知道该去哪儿。
Fan：I thought you were taking me somewhere fancy to learn about trains… But this is just your school…
范：我以为你要带我去一个厉害的地方去了解火车的知识。可这是你们学校啊。
Yuan：Trust me. There’s nowhere you can learn about the development of China’s railway technology better than Beijing Jiaotong University. We’ve got some of the country’s most advanced labs for transportation. Just wait and be amazed.
袁：相信我。要想了解中国铁路技术的发展，没有比北京交通大学更好的地方了。我们这里有全国交通运输领域最先进的实验室。等着大开眼界吧。
Fan：There’s my old train!
范：我喜欢的老火车！
In 1905, China started designing and building its very own railway without any foreign assistance – the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway. The project was led by engineer Zhan Tianyou, who has been dubbed the “Father of China’s Railways”, and the project was completed in 1909. You may not be too familiar with it, but people used to travel for days on trains going from one city to another.
在1905年，中国开始不依靠外援独立设计制造自己的铁路——京张铁路。这项工程是由工程师詹天佑主持的，他也被人称作“中国铁路之父”。该工程完成于1909年。你可能不太了解情况，但是那时候人们从城市间穿梭旅行通常要花费好几天时间。
Throughout the years, China’s railway system has made tremendous progress. The most revolutionary change came in 2007 when CRH bullet trains, or Hexiehao, started operating. Thanks to these trains, trips that used to take a day to complete were reduced to only a few hours.
多年以来，中国的铁路系统取得了巨大的进步。最富革命性的变化是2007年开始运行的和谐号列车。全靠了它们，以前要花一整天时间的旅程只要几个小时就能完成。
Ten years later, in 2017, high-speed trains, or Fuxinghao, were introduced, bringing railway travel in China to a whole new level. In fact, China’s current high-speed railway network is among the world’s most advanced. And it’s still progressing.
十年之后，在2017年，高速列车复兴号登场了。它把中国铁路旅行推上了一个全新的高度。实际上，中国目前的高速铁路网络已经在全世界名列前茅。而且它还在不断进步。
Fan：That was quite a scene!
范：真的是很震撼啊！
Yuan：I told you it was the best place to go.
袁：我告诉过你来这儿就对了。
Fan：I’m really grateful that China’s railway transportation is getting faster and faster so that we can travel more efficiently these days.
范：我觉得很感激，中国的铁路交通能够越来越快，我们的旅程也越来越有效率了。
Yuan：But the thing is, speed alone doesn’t always get you everywhere. While trains take us to remote areas, sometimes we have to rely on bicycles to go to more faraway places. So it’s probably more suitable to say that our transportation is getting smarter and more convenient, tending to every single one of our needs – however small they may seem.
袁：但是光有速度也不行。火车能够带我们去遥远的地方，但我们还是要依靠自行车才能到一些更偏僻的区域。而且就我看来，我们的城市交通正在变得更智能化、更便捷，满足着每个人的需求，不管这些需求看起来是多么地微不足道。
