《怦然心动》

Juli would've tramped(步行;穿过) right in if my mother hadn't noticed her shoes and told he to take them off. And after those were off, my mom told her that dirty socks had to go,too. Juli wasn't embarrassed(尴尬的;为难的). Not a bit. She just peeled(剥皮;剥落) them off and left them in a crusty(有壳的;易怒的) heap(堆) on our porch(走廊).

I didn't exactly give her a tour. I locked myself in the bathroom instead. And after about ten miniutes of yelling(叫喊) back at her that no, I wasn't coming out anytime soon, things got quiet out in the hall(走廊).  Another ten miniutes went by before I got the nerve(鼓起勇气) to peek(偷看) out the door.

No Juli.

I snuck(潜行) out and looked around, and yes! She was gone.

Not a very sophisticated(复杂的) ditch(逃脱), but hey, I was only seven.

My troubles were from over, though. Every day she came back, over and over again. "Can Bryce play?" I could hear her asking from my hiding place behind the couch(长椅沙发). "Is he ready yet?" On time she even cut across the yard and looked through my window. I spotted(发现;弄上污渍;玷污) her in the nick of time(千钧一发) and dove(潜水,dive过去式) under my bed, but man, that right there tells you somethis about Juli Baker. She's got no concept(观念;概念) of personal space.  No respect(尊重;尊敬;关心) for privacy(隐私). The world is her playground, and watch out below(下面)-- Juli's on the slide(日益恶化).

Lucky for me, my dad was willing to run block. And he did it over and over again. He told her I was busy or sleeping or just plain gone(简单的走了). He was a lifesaver(救生者;救世主).
