这两章构成了一个起伏，第四章起，第五章伏。第四章中Winston进入了acceptance的阶段，情况有所好转，他明白对抗的苍白无力，自己不过是放大镜下的一只虫，反抗都是无济于事he had capitulated …he had gasped the frivolity ,the shallowness of his attempt to set himself up against the power of the Party ….For seven years the Thought Police had watched him like a beetle under a magnifying glass.

他已接受现实,学会了doublethink….. he accepted everything, the past was alterable 记忆亦真亦幻，什么是事实，什么是真相----这些都已经不重要。He remembered remembering contrary things, but those were false memories, products of self-deception.

他甚至开始练习crimestop，在出现一些“危险”想法的时候，他的思想会出现盲区。The mind should develop a blind spot whenever a dangerous thought presented itself …he set to work to exercise himself in crimestop .

这句很经典啊….. Stupidity was as necessary as intelligence, and as difficult to attain. 大智若愚不易啊！

纵然他服从党，但内心仍然是仇恨，但是他只能将仇恨深锁心中某处，却不敢触及…he must keep his hatred locked up inside him like a ball of matter which was part of himself and yet unconnected with the rest of him ,a kind of cyst .

第五章一个陡降，来到了可怕的101房间， O用W最害怕的东西彻底摧毁人的底线。至于O怎么知道老鼠是W最害怕的东西，因为前面章节的伏笔，Winston和Julia在小阁楼上的时候，出现老鼠的时候W很害怕，Julia是知道W害怕老鼠的人。由此推断Julia在刑讯逼供中背叛了W，透露了W害怕老鼠的情况。O’Brien 用了极其残忍的方式，用别人害怕的事物来挑战恐惧的极限，让人感受濒临死亡的绝望，达到摧毁意志的目的…pain is not always enough .There are occasions when a human being will stand out against pain, even to the point of death….. For you, they are unendurable .they are a form of pressure that you cannot withstand even if you wished to. You will do what is required of you. 之后是w无力的拼死挣扎，但手脚被束缚，一切枉然……画面脑补。
