1.今天的内容谈到了Musk的第二次创业历程,让我很是佩服的是他的这种精神,真的是Do or die but don't give up.他经受了两次coups,却还可以坚持自己想要的继续前行,真实内心强大。而且他在知道结果后,还可以保持relent,是一般人难以做到的。

2. 虽然比笔记写的不是很好,但书一直在坚持读。这是我参加读书会以来读的第三本原版书,我不得不说,作者的功底实在太强,用的全是高级词汇,很多GRE的感觉,他竟然可以用的这么得心应手还接地气;书中的精彩表达特别多,小词,一词多义,以及高级词汇融合在一起,这本书真的在词汇量和阅读理解方面有很大的帮助。

3. 因为是第一次读传记加之最近身体一直不适,所以,感悟不像书友们那样深刻,这是我从前没有关注过的领域,很难产生mental representation的感觉,无论如何,坚持下去总是好的,慢慢来吧!

本章都下来有下面的一些感触:

1. 以前提到马克斯,就一直误以为是他创立了paypal,然后迅速积累了资产向太空和环保领域投资。都下来才知道,他创立的是X.com,paypal是另一个人创立的,他们是竞争的关系。

2.这也让我想到之前读 The 7 habit of efficiency people中说到的 win-win关系,有时候竞争并不是你死我活,当时paypal没有足够的现金,也许合并可能是最合适的一条路。联系到个人,你个人再强,也强不过一个团队。俗话说:“三个臭皮匠,顶个诸葛亮”。

应用到现实生活中,我能想到的是让专业的人做专业的事。有个自己的例子:我之前很喜欢拆拆弄弄手机,最早买iphone4的时候,电池不耐用了,后来自己买了个电池换上,后来喇叭和听筒又不行了,自己拆的装不回去了。只好换个新的了。如果当时我老老实实的拿去给专门修手机的地方修,也不会浪费这笔钱。现在我也依然是这个理念,在经济承受范围之内,我自己解决不了,或者要花非常时间来专研的事情,我就会找专业的人来做这个事,省下来更多的时间和精力放在已有的事情上。

1. Elon竟然曾经是Paypal的最大股东,X.com竟然是Paypal的曾用名,这章讲的内容真是大开眼界了。没想钢铁侠曾经也玩过互联网经济,看来伟人之所以为伟人必有其道理,他的敏锐嗅觉望尘莫及。

2.这章提到了Elon签婚前财产证明的事,让我想起来之前看的一篇文文章,讲Elon在婚姻中的极客精神,婚前财产证明使Elon离婚后从容的分配财产,没有撕逼,而Elon为了提高生育效率,还用试管婴儿技术生了三胞胎和双胞胎。汗~

创造力 & 前瞻性

Elon 具有常人不能及的行业敏感性及前瞻性,他在银行实习的经历让他敏锐的嗅到了金融业与互联网相结合的潜力,因此创办了 X.com 公司,旨在颠覆传统的银行业,即提供全程服务的网络金融服务机构:不但提供储蓄账户和支票账户服务,并且也从事经纪服务和保险业务。后续与 PayPal 的“相杀相亲”,也证实了互联网在线支付革命的历史性与必然性。

大局为重,独到的投资眼光

与 Confinity 公司合并后,因内部矛盾而再次被拉下 CEO 位置的 Elon,并未因此而携恨,反而继续以顾问的身份,并持续注资保持最大股东的身份;在后续 eBay 第一次欲收购 PayPal 时,理智的建议持观望态度,这才有了最终高达 $15亿的收购额。

不是一个好 CEO!?

Elon 在为人处世方面,过于霸道强硬且激进,这种性格不适合管理合并后的公司。合并本身带来的两种公司文化的冲击与磨合,需要的是能有耐心听取核心成员的意见,能安抚员工的不安情绪,能适时对公司战略进行解释传达,而这些 Elon 都无法做到。

这两次创业给董事会留下一个印象:Elon 并不是 CEO 的料。

很好奇并期待 Elon 接下来的创业之路......

常有人说“理想很丰满,现实很骨感”。但很多时候我们是陷入了自己给自己设的框架和陷阱中。理想是需要大胆去追求的,而不是一开始就对现实因素进行种种衡量和计算,这样只会止步不前。相信不少人也有和我一样的经历,梦想着A, 但是感觉A太遥远或不切实际了,担心自己浪费了那么多时间和经历却无所收获,于是选择了相对更实际一点的B, 但是后来发现一些曾经和自己相同起点的人却抵达了自己曾梦想着的A, 然后开始后悔自己当初“步步为营”、“谨小慎微”的选择。越来越觉得,在追求理想的路上,不要太去考虑成败和是否值得,因为追求本身就是值得的。

3.talk down

释义:to make something seem less successful, interesting, good etc than it really is

例:Businessmen are tired of politicians talking the economy down.

造句:Though they are competitors, they don't talk each other down.

这里应该是”符合“的意思。

例句:Our children do try to live up to our expectations.

我们的孩子的确会努力以不辜负我们的期望

2.backstop  支撑;支持;加强;增援;做…的后盾:

backstop 原意是“棒球场上)本垒后的挡网”,引申为支撑,支持,这里应该是“担保‘的意思吧。

(解释):capable of exsiting , 同义词有 accomplishable , manageable ,"可行的“的意思;

(例句):It is a big thing , you should take a deep consider of whether the subject is doable or not .

flair,名词,与talent同义,表示“天资,天分”,a natural ability to do something very well;“文学天赋” 可表达为 literary flair;

combative,形容词,表示“好战的,好斗的”,having or showing a willingness to fight or argue,名词是 combativeness(不可数).

fight tooth and nail,表示“全力以赴”,to try with a lot of effort or determination to do something,文中针对 Elon 好斗的性格译 “睚眦必报”;
