Judy is looking for something nice to wear for a job interview. She wants to wear something formal. Unfortunately, she doesn't have anything except casual clothes. Judy is worried. She has nothing suitable to wear, so she puts on her best casual clothes. She goes to the interview. Guess what? Judy gets the job!

本课介绍“something/anything/nothing+形容词”的后位修饰结构，以及介词except的用法。

1. something ['sʌmθɪŋ] pron.某物，某事
   anything ['ɛnɪ'θɪŋ] pron.任何事物
   nothing ['nʌθɪŋ] pron.无事，无物
   以上三字均为代词，可代替物或事情；代替物时，可指衣服(如本文)、桌子、手表等任何具体的东西。使用时应注意下列事项：
   a. 形容词修饰一般名词时通常置于该名词前。但形容词修饰something、anything、nothing等代词时，该形容词应置于这些代词之后，这种结构称
   为后位修饰。
   例: He is a boy good. ( X )
   → He is a good boy. ( O )
   (他是好孩子。)
   I have good something for you. ( X )
   → I have something good for you. ( O )
   (我有好东西给你。)
   I can't find good anything at the store. ( X )
   → I can't find anything good at the store. ( O )

   句及疑问句中；nothing本身具否定意味，不可再与否定句连用形成双重否定。
   (1) something
   例: l don't have something important to tell you.( X,something不可用于否定句中)
   → I have something important to tell you. ( O,something用于肯定句中)
   (我有重要的事要告诉你。)
   (2) anything
   例: Do you have anything important to tell me? ( O,anything用于疑问句中)
   (你有任何重要的事要告诉我吗?)
   I don't have anything important to tell you. ( O,anything用于否定句中)
   (我没有重要的事要告诉你。)
   (3) nothing
   例: I don't have nothing important to tell you，( X,nothing已具否定意思，故不得再与否定副词not并用，否则形成错误的双重否定)
   → I have nothing important to tell you. ( O )
   =I don't have anything important to tell you.
   (我没有重要的事要告诉你。)
2. Unfortunately, she doesn't have anything except casual clothes.
   (不幸的是，她除了休闲装以外，没别的衣服。)
   本句的except是介词，表示“除······之外”，使用时要置于有all(所有的)、no(没有一个）、any(任何一个)、every(每一个)等含有完全意义的形容词所修饰的名词之后。
   例: All the boys like music except John.
   (除了约翰以外,所有男孩都喜欢音乐。)
   He has nothing except money.
   (他除了钱以外,什么都没有。)
   He likes everybody except me.
   (他除了我以外，谁都喜欢；他喜欢每个人，就是不喜欢我。)
   I don't like anyone except Mary.
   (我除了玛丽以外,谁都不喜欢。)
   了解上述有关except的用法后，我们就不可再造下列错误的句子：
   例: Many boys are good except him. ( X, many表“许多”，不含有完全的意义，故不能与except并用
   → All the boys are good except him. ( O )
   (除了他以外,所有男孩都很好。)
   I like some girls here expect Mary. ( X,some表“一些”，不含有完全的意义，故不能与except并用)
   → l Iike every girl here except Mary. ( O )
   = I like all the girls here except Mary.
   (除了玛丽以外,这里的女孩我都喜欢。)
