The naked festival

Japan has a festival dedicated to baring almost all. The centuries old showpiece , taking place today, is a man. The competitors first purify their bodies by running though fountains of icy water, before gathering at the temple. The lights are switched off, the temple priests hurl sticks, and some decoys, into the crowd. One pair, is especially valuable: whoever catches it and thrusts it into a box of rice wins the title of lucky man for a year, as well as a cash prize- an honor worth the cold and the crowd.
