Feminism writers of Chengdu? you might be courious who are they? And why they’re from Chengdu?

The feminism writers of Chengdu include Yan Geling and Jung Chang. The playwrights of movies like The Flowers of War, Youth and Tianyu are all composed by Yan Geling. The world’s non-biography best-seller goes to Wild Swans: Three daughters of China, a book written by Jung Chang.

Chinese domestic audiences have witnessed the success of Yan Geling’s movies. In the meantime, Jung Chang’s masterpiece impresses over 10 million readers globally.

Both Yan Geling and Jung Chang’s works tell the stories of women, like the prostitutes in Nanjing Massacre, female literary soldiers in newly founded PRC, female educated youth in Cultural Revolution, and the three generations of a family——grandmother, mother and daugher.

Yan Geling spent most of her youth time in Chengdu. She was admitted as a member of Southwest literary sodier group. Jung Chang was born in Chengdu and lived here till she left for study in Britain.

Scenerios of Chengdu appeared a lot in their works. Jinjiang Hotel was mentioned by one of Yan’s heroine. And going back to Chengdu was Tianyu’s heroine’s dream. Jung’s novel’s background is set in Chengdu.

Before I came to settle down in Chengdu, saying that women’s in Sichuan is high was widespread. It is told that a mother enjoys a lot of power inside the family and girls in Sichuan have their own wills.

It is true, in my perspective. Perhaps that is why feminism can thrive here. Women’s voices can be respected and in turn, feminism writers prosper too.
