Exclusive Interview With Alan Greenspan

Caijing Magazine

After a series of trade disputes, the global trade landscape has become complicated and trade barriers are increasing. Caijing magazine interviewed the “master of the universe”, Alan Greenspan, former Federal Reserve chairman, to interpret Sino-US trade friction. Greenspan believes that the two countries will increase their tariffs on each other’s goods, and both sides will suffer losses.

Regarding the global economy, the pessimistic view holds that the support of the developed economies for global economic integration continues to decline, and the era of the World Trade Organization is about to become history. However Greenspan is relatively optimistic: “When politics does not play its due role, cyclical populism is destined to emerge. It is just a cry of pain. Populism emerges, and the forces grow and then fail, and we will return to capitalism. It has always been the same. The story of China is also very similar.”
