她從一件小的往事講起

The other day
an acquaintance of mine,
a gregarious and charming man,
told me he had found himself
unexpectedly alone in New York
for an hour or two
between appointments.


一開頭女性敘事特點，
從一個細節開始講起。

她說，
曾經我的這樣一個熟人，

(這個人什麼樣呢?)

a gregarious and charming man


gregarious，
一個人擅於交往，
在社交場合左右逢源。

他平常呢，
總喜歡出入各種社交場合，
到每個地方都特別受歡迎。

這樣一個人呢，
told me
he had found himself
unexpectedly alone in New York

(這個特別有畫面感)

你可以假想，

這樣一個男士，
穿著風衣，也許，
然後，
在深秋，
在紐約的街頭，

然後，
獨自在散步，

突然，
在那一秒鐘，發現自己，
身邊人潮洶湧，
但，發自內心，
有一種莫名的孤獨感。

在這樣一個空白期當中，

他就覺得很無聊。

紐約什麼東西最多呢?

New York
is a fancy place
with all the different museums.

紐約的博物館很多。

有一個博物館叫作

Whitney


這個男生呢，
可以假想，
百無聊賴，
然後一個人呢，
就踱著方步阿，
用漫步的方式，
走阿走阿，
走到一個博物館那邊，

然後呢，

spent the "empty" time
looking at things
in solitary bliss.


那就用這個，
到博物館裡面去參觀，
去看那些物品，
來打發這段空白的時光，

這個時候，
他發自內心，

solitary bliss

他在荒無的孤獨中，
感受到一種發自內心的，
巨大欣喜。




bliss，
enormous happiness

極端地，
巨大地，
一種席捲而來的喜悅。

因為
他第一次發現阿，

能夠享受
如此巨大的歡欣和愉悅。
