On the vast Eurasian continent, China has carried on the Belt and Road Initiate(B&R) since 2013. After four years, how’s the trade situation between China and B&R’s countries?
How many countries has joined the Belt and Road Initiate?
After President Xi put forward B&R, China has cooperated with 65 countries. Around 63% countries are from Asia. Most of countries are in Central and Eastern Europe, Western Asia and the Mediterranean.
How’s the import and export situation?
From 2013 to 2015, no matter Chinese import or export, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN), Western Asia and the Mediterranean always ranked one or two. Besides, China imported the least from Central and Eastern Europe, and exported the least to Central Asia.
It is interesting that ASEAN, Western Asia and the Mediterranean as Chinese import and export major regions, their net exports with China are negative. In other words, China imported more than exported from these two regions.
After knowing the situation of B&R’s countries, how much money did China imported and exported from 2013 to 2015?
In September 2013, President Xi first put forward B&R. This year Chinese net exports (China and Belt and Road’s countries) amounted to $94.74712 billion. In 2014, Belt and Road Initiative developed rapidly. This year the import and export between China and B&R’s countries were on top. In 2015, the import and export both descent. Net exports between China and B&R’s countries is increasing year by year.
After B&R, which countries did China trade with most frequently?
Among three years’ exports, the top six were the Philippines, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Russia, Laos and Myanmar. Four of the top six countries were in ASEAN, and the other two were respectively in South Asia and in the Commonwealth of the Independent States (CIS).
Among three years’ imports, the top six were the Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia. Among the top six countries, four were from ASEAN, one in CIS and another one in Western Asia and the Mediterranean.
As you can see, China had close trade ties with ASEAN, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan.
About the import between China and B&R’s countries, the top five were:
From 2013 to 2015, Malaysia was always the most import country. Russia has always been ranked third. Saudi Arabia and Thailand fought for the second.
About the export between China and B&R’s countries, the top five were:
Although the ranking varied slightly from year to year, most of the top five were Russia, India, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Russia ranked well for the first two years, but by 2015, it had fallen to the seventh. India and Vietnam are China’s main export destinations, steadily occupying the top three in three years.
No matter import or export, Malaysia, Thailand, Russia, Vietnam and Singapore always show up. So how about their trade with Chinese six major regions?
Assigning Chinese top six major import and export countries along the Belt and Road in 2016 a value of 6 to 1 points, this means the first country gets 6 points… the sixth gets 1 point.
The Northwest had close trade relationship with Russia. The Northeast’s main export destination countries were more than the import country. The Southwest, the South and the Central had close trade tie with ASEAN. Goods of the Eastern were mainly exported to Vietnam and Russia, and its goods were from Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.
Attention: Data excludes the import and export of Sinai Pen, because the data cannot be separated from the Egypt.
