11.14 Daily Highlights of《Goodbye,Mr Chips》

第五、六章中多看了一眼的句子：

1.When Chips…recollected those days,he resaw the glorious hump of the Gable...he could resmell the washed air...refollow the ribbon of the pass across to Sty Head.

这段话中我发现在句子之间用了一系列的re…，他回想起那些日子，回头看看他们相遇的山峰，好像又能闻到暴雨后的清新空气，回忆中又走了一遍山径小路，这里就暗藏了以后会出现的悲伤气氛。

2.giving the same lessons year after year had formed a groove into…

成年累月的教授同样的课程已经形成了一条槽（成了老一套）form a groove这个表达非常形象。

3.His mind,which was adequately if not brilliantly equipped.

他的思想虽没有非常聪明但也够用。if我查了字典，最恰当的释义我认为在这里应该表达“即使”的意味，所以“if not”表示“即使没有、虽没有”。

4.Kathie broadened his views and opinions,also,giving him an outlook far beyond the roofs and turrets of Brookfield.

broaden这个用法让我想起toughen，同样是形容词动词化，broad表示宽的，broaden作为动词意为扩宽；后面outlook本意为远景，引申义为观点，这里与后面“beyond the roofs and turrets of Brookfield”一起使用感觉两者的意义都能体会出来，很生动。

课堂笔记：

1.incorrect、impossible等这种否定前缀的单词，如果想强调否定式，可以在前缀重读。

例：We've been together and untogether.

2.have a hard time doing sth（not to do sth）

3.It was alright，her coming to Brookfield.动名词的使用更正式z

例：Your taking part in Phoenominal English is great.

4.see in someone：欣赏某个方面

What do you see in her？你看上她哪点了？

5.eligible：有资格的，可以与qualified互换

6.gem clear与crystal clear含义差不多，像玉石一样清晰。

7.depreciate：贬值 self depreciating 自我贬低➡️自黑

8.with mock gravity：故作严肃，mock模拟 gravity严肃

1.trivial/trɪviəl/不是/traɪviəl/

2.laughter/'lɑːftə; ˋlæftɚ /注意/f/的发音
