Day 17 -- Page 183-195

1. To be honest with you, my message didn't seem to be getting through to Rowley.

*get the message: (informal) to understand what someone means or what they want you to do.

OK. I get the message- I am going!

My sentence:

I think he never gets my message through because he never does what I have told him.

2. I knew it was just a matter of time before I got busted for what happened last week.

*bust somebody for something: if the police bust someone, they charge them with a crime.

Davis was busted for drugs.

My sentence:

The neighborhood thought he was a friendly and polite man but was astonished that he was busted for rape.

3. Later on today, Rowley got reinstated as a Patrol.

*reinstate: if someone is reinstated, they are officially given back their job after it was taken away.

My sentence:

General Jack got reinstated after he was proven innocent.

4. Every morning, I go to the back door of the cafeteria so Rowley can hook me up.

* hook somebody up with something = fix up with: to help someone get something that they need or want.

Do you think you can hook me up with some tickets for tonight?

My sentence:

I heard that you are in charge of the sale of tickets. So can you hook me up with some?

5. After dinner tonight, I saw Rowley and Collin walking up the hill together, chumming it up.

*chum up= pal up : become friends, act friendly towards.

My sentence:

After seeing Rose's speech at the contest, I have been wanting to chum up with her. So I made contact with her classmates or roommates to send my wish.

1. Then he told me I was relieved of my Safety Patrol duties "effective immediately."

relieve somebody of their post/ duties/ command etc (formal): to take away someone's job because they have done something wrong.

Will was relieved of his post due to his connection to Captain Jack Sparrow.

2. I can't believe Rowley went and backstabbed me like that.

backstab的解释是“the act of secretly doing bad things to someone else, especially saying bad things about them, in order to gain an advantage for yourself.”

When I was in 4th grade in elementary school, I can not understand why some classmates backstabbed others for teachers' praise.

3. I thought about really letting Rowley have it for ratting me out like that, but then I realized something.

这个词组的意思是“ if someone rats you out, they are disloyal to you, especially by telling someone in authority about something wrong that you have done." 这个词组和第二个词组在意思上比较接近了。

Ratting out your teammates is one of the most disgusting and unbearable thing.

The joy to play with a kid.

My nephew was born in March 5th, 2015. That time was on the Lantern Festive, January 15th in the Chinese Lunar Calendar. He was the fifth family member in both father's and mother's family. In Chinese culture, people think "5" is the symbol of whole. He was born to be connected to five.

He is now three years old and can walk steadily to anywhere he likes. Stepping up stairs was a piece of cake for him. When he knows that I am in the study in the second floor, he will step up the stairs and knock the door and then call me"Yi , Yi". He can not call me clearly and like to say one word to express himself. He dislikes to be alone and asks us to play with him, even in his TV time.

Once seeing his smile face or listening to his unclear words, I will laugh from the bottom of my heart. He is innocent and pure. I do hope he will keep in this condition to be happy and pure.
