Hacking Tut Running MapleStory on Vmware

For people who did not buy BT and don't have the option of running 2+ ms on 1 computer; you would mainly use VMware. After the maintenance last night on 7/7/11, Vmware has stopped working and I believe Ms can now detect if you are using vmware.
This might be me but is anyone else getting the error: "Sorry, this application cannot run under a Virtual Machine" when running maplestory on Vmware?

Restore the exported entries before exiting the VM, or just run from a Snapshot. You should only have to change the first occurrences you find. I do not know if something similar would work with other virtualization software.

Enjoy.

Additional options:

If you get a message from themida preventing you from even starting MapleStory you will need to do this.
Go to the location where your Virtual Machine's .vmx file is stored. Make sure your VM is off & open the vmx file with notepad. At the bottom of the file add this line.
Code:

monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "TRUE"
Save & start your virtual machine. Since you've already made the registry change to bypass hackshield & changed your vmx file to bypass themida MapleStory should run normally.

Im guessing they only updated files pertaining to HackShield, so I'm guessing it's nothing to do with the actual stability of the game, it seems like they added Virtual Machine detection.

I guess since it's possible to open multiple clients with VMware they felt the need to add it. e.e

it just needs to be bypassed. so annoying nexon.

Hmm reading around on other forums I saw many complaints about how mac users could not run maplestory. Maybe this and the fact we we can't run ms on vmware are known problems in the recent maintenance.
Deez

I think they meant to do it honestly, looking at all the complaints i didnt know ms, had such a large mac user base, so maybe nexon didnt either? Well bootcamp and parallels are comfirmed still working ;D

If you get a message from themida preventing you from even starting MapleStory you will need to do this.
Go to the location where your Virtual Machine's .vmx file is stored. Make sure your VM is off & open the vmx file with notepad. At the bottom of the file add this line.

monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "TRUE"
Save & start your virtual machine. Since you've already made the registry change to bypass hackshield & changed your vmx file to bypass themida MapleStory should run normally.

the .vmx file is in your virtual machines folder, where ever you saved it

and you might have to do show package contents, and then do "open with..." notepad

To find your .vmx file do this.
Right click your virtual machine from the side bar of VMWare.
Click "Settings".
Click the "Options" tab.
You should see "Working directory" with a path filled in the box. This is the folder where your .vmx file will be located.
Remember that you must edit the file with your virtual machine is completely off.

Ok Cam's previous post on how to fix it was pretty simple, but it seems people are still having problems.
I have the latest version of vmware and maplestory works on it.
1. Start>Run>Type Regedit>Enter

FIND : [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000]
Once in the "........\0000" file look for : "DriverDesc"="VMware SVGA II"
Double click it and change it to whatever.
Basically it was just checking the description of the video card driver."

Ok now you can restart vmware or power it off.

The next thing to do is find the Virtual Machines file where your vmware's OS is located. The default location is in the Documents folder.
Enter it and look for a .vmx file.
Right Click the .vmx file> Open with> Note pad.
Now copy this at the bottom of the file: monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "TRUE"
Save and exit.
Make sure you the .cmx file with Vmware player again or else it will continue opening as a notepad file.
